Blue Dragon belongs to a series I think of as Soft Rebellion — paintings that hold tenderness and something untamed in the same breath. The name came to me after the painting was finished. There's no dragon in the image — the blue is the ground the painting rests on — but the name felt true. Something about the subterranean power of gentleness, the healing that water carries, and the understanding that force not handled with care becomes dangerous. A dragon, in other words, is not always what it looks like.
